Adopt a Mooring
We would love to announce the ADOPT A MOORING program. The Red Sea mooring system is considered one of the most important projects to help and fight the deterioration of the coral reef of the red sea in Egypt, a deterioration that is caused by the constant anchoring on the reef. In 1992 HEPCA started a mooring system with only 50 moorings in Hurghada; today the system includes more than 1200 mooring spread along the coast of the Egyptian Red Sea and covering all diving sites. The ADOPT A MOORING program, calls on diving centres to collaborate with HEPCA and adopt the maintenance of a specific number of moorings in a diving site. HEPCA will provide all needed tools, materials, and training. While the diving site will monitor the adopted moorings, and perform the basic maintenance tasks, and in the case of the need to install a new pin or manta, the diving centre will provide HEPCA's team with a boat. The program relies on the diving community's sense of ownership and responsibility towards the mooring system and our environment. And we would like to thank our members who already joined the program; Blue O Two, Sea Serpent, Barakuda Lotus Bay, NIC, Shams Safaga, Mena Dive, ORCA Diveclub Safaga, Ducks Diving Safaga, Emperor Divers, Longimanus, Red Sea Diving Safari, Barakuda Lahami Bay. These members adopted a total of 265 moorings, in 49 different dive sites. If you would like to adopt a mooring, please contact us.
