Azza Fahmy Supports Bedouin Handicraft Training

Community development has always been at the core of HEPCA's efforts and will continue to be one of our most important priorities. HEPCA's transformative philosophy is based on encouraging self-empowerment through education and training. By harnessing the collective energy of the community, we lead and encourage the underprivileged that need our help the most. For over 6 years now, the Bedouins of Hamata and Shalateen have successfully maintained 2 handicraft centers that collectively employ over 100 women. HEPCA'S handicraft center model has proven to be a resounding success, in a region where very little employment opportunities exist for the marginalized Bedouin tribes of the south. Without these centers in Hamata and Shalateen, many of these women (most of which are single / widowed) would not have employment or even a source of income. Due to a drought in the region that has lasted nearly a decade; these nomadic tribes have been forced to settle closer to the coast. The advent of mass tourism development has also forced them to begin living in settlements. Unsustainable tourism practices have also continued to marginalize the Bedouins and their rich cultural heritage. This is a tragic reality and one of our community's most important responsibilities. HEPCA is addressing these challenges through a number of community development projects and our handicraft centers are just one example of this. Our latest handicraft workshop training was conducted last October in collaboration with Azza Fahmy Foundation. The comprehensive 2 week training program was carried out by Johanna-Katharina Maninger. Aside from new handicraft and embroidery techniques, training in branding, marketing, and product enhancement was also provided. The Bedouins women were very receptive and appreciative of the training workshop. They learned some important new skills that will help them develop their handicraft work and marketing approach. Special thanks to Azza Fahmy and the Italian cooperation for their continued support. عزه فهمى تساند تدريبات الحرف اليدويه فى الجنوب ان تنميه المجتمعات المحليه هى جوهر جهود جمعيه "هيبكا" و ستستمر كأحد اهم اولويتنا.تنتهج االجمعية فلسفة تشجيع هذه المجتمعات لاستغلال قدراتهم و طاقاتهم عن طريق التعليم و التدريب, بالاضافة الى واجبنا فى دعم و مساعدة هذه المجتمعات الاقل حظا على مدار اكثر من 6 سنوات نجحت قبائل حماطه و الشلاتين فى الحفاظ بنجاح على مركزين للحرف اليدويه و التى يقدر عددالعاملات بهما بأكثر من 100 سيده. وتعتبر مراكزالحرف اليدويه نموذج مدوى للنجاح فى منطقه يتوافر فيها فرص عمل ضئيله لقبائل البحر الاحمر فى الجنوب، و بدونها لبقيت هولاء السيدات بدون عمل او مصدر دخل نتيجه لفتره جفاف استمرت تقريبا لعقد من الزمان, اضطرت القبائل للاستقرار قرب ساحل البحر الاحمر و ساهم انتشار السياحه الى الحد من مناطق تواجدهم و اتجهوا للعيش فى المستوطنات. و مما لا شك فيه ان السياحه الغير مستدامه قد ساهمت فى تهميش القبائل المحليه و تراثهم المحلى الثرى ما يحدث هو مأساه حقيقيه و واجبنا كجزء من المجتمع تحمل المسؤليه و محاوله التغيير للافضل. جمعيه "هيبكا" تحاول معالجه هذه التحديات عن طريق العديد من المشاريع التى تخدم المجتمعات المحليه مثل مركزى الحرف اليدويه اخر ورشه تدريب اجريت فى اكتوبر 2012 بالتعاون مع مؤسسه عزه فهمى. استمر التدريب المكثف لمده اسبوعين مع مصممه الحلى "جوانا كاثرينا". الىجانب الاساليب الجديده فى التطريز و التصنيع, تم منح المتدربات تدريب على ادراك ما هيه العلامات التجاريه, التسويق و تطوير المنتجات سيدات القبائل كانوا على قدر كبير من التعاون و الادراك خلال الورشه, و تعلموا بعض المهارات التى ستساعدهم على تطوير منتجاتهم و اساليبهم الخاصه فى التسويق نتوجه بالشكر لكل من مؤسسة عزة فهمى و مؤسسه التعاون الايطالى لتعاونهم الدائم
