Breaking News – Red Sea Governor Closes Shabb el Erg and Shabb Fanus

Shabb el Erg and Shabb Fanus will be closed off to the public for a period of 1 month starting from May 15, 2013 until June 15, 2013. All tourism activities to these sites will be banned during this period and a 10,000 L.E. fine will be imposed on anyone that is found violating this legal decree, or engaging in any environmental violations or harassment of marine life. Shabb el Erg and Shabb Fanus will be re-opened after this period with new policies and regulations that will ensure the safety of visitors and the long term preservation of the sites. This strict measure is being implemented because of irresponsible activities and behaviors that are taking place there daily. It has come after a serious meeting between HEPCA and the Red Sea Governer on May 11, 2013. The harassment and injury to the dolphins, as well as the unsustainable use of these dolphin-resting habitats is leading to a clear deterioration of these important natural resources. The situation is becoming completely intolerable and represents the height of irresponsibility. We’ve received many reports from concerned citizens about the unbelievable amount of boats there on any given day and the dangerous situation this is creating for people in the water. Boat operators have been witnessed chasing dolphins and crossing each other's paths dangerously close, while divers and snorkelers are right in the vicinity. The skippers and boat operators that are using these sites are creating a very dangerous situation that could lead to serious human injury or even death. A committee consisting of HEPCA, the environmental protection affairs agencies, the coast guard, and the navy has been formed on May 11, 2013 because of a serious rise of environmental violations and unsustainable tourism practices. These agencies will begin working together during the next 2-3 months on violation monitoring and patrolling efforts out at sea. This collective effort will be the start of a renewed cooperation between these agencies, as a response to the growing threats facing our environment. It’s time for us to bring discipline back to the sea and set the precedence that such unsustainable and endangering activities will never be tolerated. We expect the full cooperation of the public, the tourism sector and especially diving companies and boat operators. We will not be showing any leniency when it comes to the violation of environmental laws. We will keep you posted with our plans and thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. اغلاق شعب العرق و شعب فانوس بقرار من السيد محافظ البحر الاحمر قام السيد اللواء محافظ البحر الاحمر باصدار قرار بغلق كلا من شعب العرق و شعب فانوس اما الزوار و ذلك لمدة شهر واحد تبدأ من 15 مايو و حتى 15 يونيو 2013، سيتم ايقاف كافة الانشطه السياحية خلال هذه الفتره وستوقع غرامه ماليه قدرها عشرة الاف جنيه على اى فرد يخالف هذا القرار او اى نوع من المخالفات البيئية التى من شانها الاضرار بالحياة البحرية ، هذا و سيتم اعادة فتح كلا الموقعين بعد هذه المدة بسياسات جديدة و ضوابط من شانها الحفاظ على سلامة الزائرين و حماية مستدامة طويلة الامد للمنطقتين و قد اتخذ هذا القرار نظرا لكثرة وتعدد بعض التصرفات والانشطه اللامسئوله التى تحدث يوميا وبكثره والتى تؤدى الى العديد من الاصابات للدرافيل و كذا ازعاجها المستمر اثناء تواجدها فى بيئتها الطبيعيه الامر الذى يؤدى الى تدمير تدريجى يبدو واضحا فى هذه المناطق والتى تعتبر من الموارد الطبيعيه الهامه جدآ. لقد تلقينا بلاغات عديده من بعض المواطنين المهتمين والذين ينتابهم القلق نظرا لتواجد هذا الكم من اللنشات والمراكب بالمنطقه يوميا الامر الذى يعرض الزائرين المتواجدين فى الماء الى خطر شديد فى معظم الاحيان , و بصفة يومية تتم مشاهدة اطقم المراكب اثناء قيامهم بمطاردة الدرافيل بسرعات جنونية ويقطعون طريق بعضهم الاخر ويمرون قريبا جدا من بعضهم البعض اثناء تواجد الزوار بالماء للغوص او السنوركل مما يعرضهم لخطر شديد ، و اصبح رؤساء المراكب و العاملين عليها يشكلون خطرا واضحا قد يتسبب فى اصابات بالغة او حتى مقتل احد الزوار و فى الحادى عشر من مايو تم تشكيل لجنة مكونة من جمعية المحافظة على البيئة " هيبكا" ، حرس الحدود, والقوات البحريه نتيجه لارتفاع غير مسبوق فى عدد المخالفات البيئيه التى تنتج عن الانشطه السياحيه الغير مستدامة , هذه اللجنه ستبدء من الان وخلال الشهرين القادمين اعمال المراقبة من خلال دوريات مستمره للمنطقه وسوف تعمل هذه الهيئات معا لرصد ومتابعة وايقاف كافة المخالفين لقوانين حماية البيئه. هذه المحاولات الجاهده التى تقوم بها هذه الهيئات هو بداية تعاون جاد بينهما استجابه الى الخطر المتزايد والذى يهدد مواردنا البيئيه لقد حان الوقت لاتخاذ قرارات مؤثره لعودة الانضباط الى البحر الاحمر وارساء الضوابط الحازمة لايقاف هذا النوع من الانشطه اللا مسئوله والخطيره و ليعلم الجميع ان هذه الانشطه المدمره لن يتم احتمالها ولن يسمح بممارستها فى البحر الاحمر نحن نناشد ونتوقع التعاون الكامل من المواطنين وكافة العاملين بقطاع السياحه و خاصة الشركات العاملة بصناعة الغوص و الانشطة البحرية ، وليعلم الجميع اننا لن نتهاون مع اى فرد يخالف قوانين حماية البيئه, نرجو من الجميع ادراك اهمية هذا الخبر والتأكد من ايصال هذه المعلومات الى مرشدى السياحه ، مرشدى الغوص ، رؤساء المراكب و كذلك الزوار سوف نداوم على اطلاعكم على كل ما هو جديد بهذا الشأن,و نشكركم مقدما على دعمكم وتعاونكم.
