Hurghada court issued a Historical Adjudication in favor of the Red Sea Conservation
Hurghada court issued adjudication in case No 9961 Against the boat captain of "White Star" of 5000LE fine and 6 month of imprisonment for violating Article 2 of Law 102 for 1983 for protected areas and committing. This adjudication was response to the violation report against the "White Star" boat from 23rd of October 2015 According to Article 2 of Law 102 for 1983 for protected areas it is strictly forbidden to touch or disturb Dolphins and Sea cow, turtles or any other marine or any other marine life and offenders are subject to prosecuting, fines and prison The continuously increasing number of boats and motorized vessels using the offshore reefs of Hurghada and the un-regulated activity has always been a very chronic source of disturbance to Dolphins in both sites Sha'ab El Erg and Sha'ab El Fanous. The species encountered in these locations are the indo-pacific bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops aduncus) this species is listed in Appendix II of CITES - (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and are protected by Egyptian laws and international Conventions The long term consequences of the unsustainable use of these pristine sites and the harassment of the citizen dolphin population will definitely lead them to leave the area Boats have been witnessed chasing dolphins and crossing each other's paths dangerously close, while snorkelers are right in the vicinity at the surface and divers in shallow waters below in the narrow passages of both sites Sha’ab El Erg and Fanous; creating a very dangerous situation that could lead to serious human injury or even death. Several complains from tourists have been received This historical adjudication is a result of the exerted efforts of the Marine Patrol team which include the Northern Red Sea Protected Areas Authority, Red Sea Governorate and HEPCA. The main duty of this team is to monitor the environmental violations in Sha'ab El Erg and Fanous
