It would seem that some people are a little slow to catch on! Judging by recent posts on favourite social media sites it would seem that some people are still not aware of what is legal and illegal here in the Red Sea. Despite the Governorate decree (79/2004) completely forbidding the catching, trading or exporting of any shark products, from any shark species, there are still some boat owners and operators bragging about their exploits and their ability to catch sharks. Before you consider hiring a boat please check the legality of the activity in which you are taking part and boycott any operators who offer you shark fishing. It is important to know that involvement in illegal shark-related activities can be punishable in a court of law – this applies to both the operator and the participants.
