Slaughtered Hammerhead Investigation Concluded

On December 9, 2012 concerned members and supporters shared a horrific picture on the HEPCA facebook page of a man posing with a lifeless juvenile hammerhead shark. The photo was taken on a safari boat as the man in question was proudfully displaying his illegal catch. We’re not exactly sure how or where the shark was illegally captured, but the specimen looked like it had been recently caught. It took us longer than expected to conclude a thorough investigation, but we are pleased to announce that serious action has been taken. Our investigation concluded that the boat was based out of El Gouna and we were also able to identify the boat company with the help of our supporters. The offender has been fired from his position and the boat company acted very responsibly in addressing the issue and promising corrective action. Furthermore, the El Gouna management has also issued a statement condemning this illegal activity and re-affirming commitment to environmental protection. We are pleased to announce that the following actions will also be taken by the El Gouna Management and we would like to thank them for their continued solidarity towards our cause: El Gouna Management will continue to give priority towards environmental protection and conservation. El Gouna Management is applying a no tolerance policy for activities that target endangered species. El Gouna Management will be carrying out new training courses for their staff around the importance of environmental protection and marine conservation. نتائج التحقيقات فى مسأله ذبح قرش " رأس المطرقه " فى التاسع من ديسمبر 2012 ، نشر العديد من اعضائنا و مساندينا صورة مفجعة على صفحة الجمعية للتواصل الاجتماعى تظهر شخص ممسك بقرش يافع من عائله "قروش رأس المطرقه" ! و قد تم التقاط الصورة على متن احدى اليخوت التى تقوم برحلات السفارى و بالرغم من عدم معرفتنا تحديدا مكان و كيفيه صيد القرش الا انه يتضح من الصوره ان القرش حديث الصيد بعد تحقيقات مكثفه استمرت لوقت اطول من المتوقع , يسعدنا ان نعلمكم انه قد تم اتخاذ اجراءات جدية بصدد هذا الشأن، اظهرت تحقيقاتنا ان مكان انطلاق اليخت كان من الجونه "20 كم شمال الغردقه" و قد قمنا بالتعرف على الشركه التابع لها اليخت بمساعدة بعض مساندى جمعيه "هيبكا". تم فصل المعتدى من عمله و اما عن الشركه المالكه لليخت فمن جانبهم, فقد تعهد المسؤولون بعدم تكرار حدوث اى اعتداءات مماثله على البيئه البحريه قامت اداره الجونه بنشر بيان تدين فيه هذا الفعل الغير قانونى و تتعهد بالتمسك بكافه اللوائح و القيود البيئيه المعنيه بالحفاظ على البيئه تتشرف جمعيه "هيبكا" بأعلان الاجراءات التى تعهدت ادارة الجونة بتنفيذها و نتوجه اليهم بالشكر على التزامهم التام بقضية الحفاظ على مواردنا الطبيعية ستستمر اداره الجونه بأعطاء الاولويه تجاه حمايه البيئيه و المحافظه عليها تؤكد اداره الجونه على اتخاذ اجراءات صارمه فى كل ما يخص اى كائنات بحريه مهدده بالانقراض و اخيرا, و فى القريب العاجل سوف تقوم اداره الجونه باعطاء دورات تدريبيه لنشر التوعيه البيئيه بين العاملين
