Support Samadai Community Friday
On May 9th 2013, HEPCA joined the children of Marsa Alam for an unforgettable and life-changing experience at Shaab Samadai. The initiative was part of our free community Friday at Samadai and encouraging the people of Marsa Alam to gain a new appreciation for this important natural resource. Over 20 children between the ages of 10-16 joined us for the trip to Samadai. They received a thorough briefing about the resident spinner dolphins of Samadai, their daily behavior and the importance of this resting habitat. Our mooring and patrol team got the chance to talk to the kids about the important work they do here and why environmental protection is so important for our community. As soon as we arrived the children were greeted to over 30 playful dolphins! The children anxiously got into the water and remained with the dolphins for over an hour. One of the youngest children with the group had never been in the open water before and overcame his fear that day. Most of the children had never been that close to dolphins before and so the trip was a lifetime experience! After the swimming, the HEPCA team engaged the children through fun and educational activities on-board the boat. The entire experience was a great success and will ensure that these children feel ownership and stewardship over their precious natural resources. We consider this work one of our most important priorities and will continue to work actively in community development initiatives.
