Garbage disposed into the marine environment is both an eyesore and dangerous. Plastic and glass objects, metal cans, fishing lines, gears, nets, abandon hocks, Styrofoam debris – all accumulating either in the sea bottom, floating on the surface, or dispersed across the land creates hazardous conditions. As a part of HEPCA's platform on public awareness, coastal cleanups are organized on a regular basis to proactively send a message of environmental stewardship throughout the community. Land and underwater cleanups are one of the most effective ways to sustain the marine environment and maintain cleanliness. With any effective undertaking, there is always a set of best practices to avoid harm to both the community and the environment.
